The commission was set up in 2007 and QIA leaders were given a broader mandate to review all actions of government that scarred the lives of Inuit, especially in the years between 1950 and 1975.

July 18 Nunavut Chief Coroner announces the date of Solomon's inquest ᓄᓇᕘᑉ ᐊᖏᔪᖅᑳᖓᑦ ᑐᖁᖓᔪᓕᕆᔨ ᐅᖃᖅᐳᖅ ᐅᓪᓗᐊᓂ ᓲᓗᒨᓂᐅᑉ ᖃᐅᔨᓴᖅᑕᐅᓂᖓᓄᑦ Iqaluit The inquest into Solomon Uyarasuk's death will be conducted in Igloolik between November 24th to November 28th, 2014. Inquests are mandatory whenever a person dies while in police custody.
